Peter Girard studied composition at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio.
From early childhood through the present, playing by ear, improvisation,
and an eclectic appetite for exploring new styles has shaped his development.

Growing up in “the business” with writer/director father Bernard Girard
provided early exposure to the fast paced world of film production.
Watching Elmer Bernstein conduct an orchestra or seeing Stu Phillips
recording the soundtrack for “Dead Heat on a Merry-go-round” and be asked
to rewrite and orchestrate a scene, then show up to conduct it 24 hours later,
are experiences that truly inspire and inform.

After obtaining a solid background in music theory and composition at Oberlin,
he gained broad experience in various multimedia formats assembling music,
dialogue and images for both educational and entertainment purposes.
In the1980s, with the advent of multi-track tape recorders and synthesizers,
he began developing expertise composing and producing music electronically.
This laid the framework for scoring he embarked on in the years that followed,
eventually leading to a passion for digital software based music production.

He has written works for modern dance company MILK (Samantha Giron),
collaborated with DJ Bloodroot and other electronic musicians as “MAYAM”,
and produced solo electronic music as “Bobo and Sally”. He also created
music for Unreal Pictures, a cutting edge computer animation company.
His acclaimed CD with vocalist Cindy Lubar Bishop,“Code One: fourteen parts”
